Electricity is the most dangerous hazard within the home, moving at record speeds, and odorless. When electricity strikes, it can only destroy property and objects in its path – and when comes in contact with a person, it can severely disfigures or disables them, if not killing them.

Check your home for electrical hazards:
Frayed or worn electric cords
Multiple Appliance plugs on a single switch
Electrical appliances such as radios, hairdryers, shavers, portable lamps, or radiators used near showers, baths or swimming pools
Extension cords being used instead of permanent indoor/outdoor wiring
Wet floors are present where electricity is used
Electrical appliances that trip, blow fuses, overheat, or spark heavily

Turn off electrical hazards in your home permanently by avoiding the following:

Frayed, worn, or damaged cords and extension cords should not be repaired with tape. GET RID OF THEM.
Always turn an appliance off before unplugging it.
When unplugging an appliance, make sure to hold the plug and not the cord.
Turn small appliances off when not in use.
Make sure outdoor appliances don’t come into contact with pools or puddles of water. Also that all material used is rated for outdoor use.
When using electricity in wet areas, always wear rubber sole shoes and remove jewlery
Never touch appliances or switches with wet hands.
Never fold or crumple an electric blanket.
Call a licensed electrician for any repairs needed to switches, power points, or light fittings.
Send faulty appliances to be repaired or throw them out. Don’t attempt to repair them yourself unless you are qualified.
Use plug-in covers to prevent children from poking objects into outlets.
Make sure to unplug electrical appliances after using them.

Each year approximately 1,000 residents in the United States die as result of electric shock. An additional 5,000 individuals seek emergency treatment for electric shocks. Approximately 20% of all electrical injuries occur in children, with the highest incidence occurring in toddlers and adolescents.

Outlets

Avoid overloading with too many appliances. Wall plates that are found broken on the outlet should be replaced as soon as possible. If young children are present, make sure to have safety covers on all of the unused outlets that are accessible to them.

Breaker Service Panel Replacement

Most customers learn the hard way that breaker panels have a limited lifetime of 20-30 years. They go from strange tripping of circuit breakers, to having a fire inside the breaker panel itself.

Dollens Electric can service or replace nearly all types of breaker panels, be they inside a stucco wall, or simple surface-mount panels. New installations frequently need to be upgraded to include new arc-fault and GFCI breakers to comply with new electrical fire codes.

We handle the entire process for our customer, generally in the same day, including:

-Assessment of the root cause of the failure

-Scheduling a disconnect with the local utility crew.

-Obtaining building permits

-Removal and replacement of the breaker panel and addition of all new circuit breakers.

-Meeting with the building inspector for final inspection.

-Arranging for utility company reconnect.

Energy Usage Analysis is the first step in the solar system implementation process. The past 12 months of electric usage is collected from utility bill history (or downloaded from the utility company website). Based on this "real data", we determine the production need of your solar system.
